Created by the artist known as ONE, One Punch Man is a Japanese superhero manga series. The plot follows Saitama, a self-sufficient superhero who experiences boredom as a byproduct of defeating all-worthy challengers with a single blow for decades ultimately leading him to embark on a quest to discover powerful opponents. Throughout his journey, he makes friends out of other superheroes. ONE wrote the original webcomic version in early 2009. From June 2012 onward, Yusuke Murata shone his artistic skills on a digital manga featuring Saitama, published on Shueisha's Tonari no Young Jump website. Its chapters are periodically compiled and published into individual volumes, known as tankōbon. Currently, the release count stands at 33, which were issued by Shueisha in April 2025. North American rights to the digital version were assigned to Viz Media, who has been serializing it in Weekly Shonen Jump. A Madhouse anime adaptation from 2015 has been airing in Japan from October to December. The anime J.C. Staff took over for the second season in April 2019 and aired it until July of the same year. The third season will also be produced by J.C. Staff, and is scheduled for October 2025. The original webcomic is published in North America which is licensed by Viz Media. The first season in America debuted in Adult Swims Toonami from July to October 2016, while the second season run from October 2019 to January 2020. By June 2012, the original webcomic manga surpassed 7.9 million hits. In 2020, its manga remake had sold over 30 million copies globally, solidifying its status as a leading manga series.
